Does anyone know what the mid-PTO speed is on JD compacts, specifically an older 650? I was considering converting a belly mower to a rear, 3 pt. mount but I'm concerned the PTOs turn at different speeds. Any ideas? Thanks, Bryan

Alan, have you considered a rear mounted finish mower instead of the MMM? There are some good threads on here about the virtues of MMM vs. Rear Mount, so you'll have to form your own opinion. But, I have a much older Deere (650) w/ "60 MMM. Granted, it's not the newer quick attach system so maybe my woes are unfounded on the newer machines. I find myself removing the MMM to use the tractor for more utilitarian tasks like bush hogging, etc. I'm seriously considering scrapping the MMM for the 3 pt. ease of a rear mount. When I bought the tractor, I never realized how many different uses I'd find for it. If I were buying a new one, I wouldn't even consider a MMM. Just my $ .02. I too have a 650, and love it. Somebody emailed me about this recently, it may have been you? What I found when searching for a FEL was that Great Bend and Bush Hog couldn't guarantee a fit w/ the belly mower. Kelley thought their loader would fit, but couldn't guarantee it. I was told there's a company called SMC that makes a loader to fit a 650 w/ belly mower, but I don't know anything about their loaders.

Like Murf suggests, searching dealers & scrap yards might pan out, but it's a long process...I tried it and wasn't successful. You may find that an aftermarket loader will fit w/ minor modification to the mounting hardware, via your local welding shop. Have you considered scrapping the belly mower for a rear mount, that way an aftermarket FEL would fit? I'm heading in that direction b/c removing the mower whenever I cut my field w/ the bush hog is a pain in #@!.

Thanks so much for the quick education on tractor hydraulics. I finished welding the hydraulic toplink and installed it today. It works like a charm. I topped off my fluid levels after extending the cylinder all the way and everything looks good. Amazing how much easier the hydraulic toplink makes switching implements.

You guys were much more help than my dealer (considering he closed at 12:00 on Saturday!).
